Over two billion people around the world are obese and the Japan Society for the Study of Obesity (JASSO) has started a campaign on obesity and the early treatment for the disease. The Japanese are one of the healthiest people in the world; they have the longest life span of all countries and have been that way for almost a decade now. Obesity is not an actual disease in other countries but many diseases have been attributed to obesity. If one does not watch their diet or their weight, they can gain other sicknesses from it. Japan wants to combat obesity and not let the Japanese be part of this growing global health issue. Japan is taking on some precautions to handle obesity and the rest of the world is taking notice of what Japan is doing.
Japan’s definition of obesity is that it is a disease that must be stopped before it becomes a full-blown problem. Japan wants to introduce to the world its own definition of obesity and the subject matter will be discussed during international conferences. It will be a significant event for Japan’s definition to be recognized as the international standard for obesity as they are taking all necessary steps to combat the intense health problem.
There are an increasing number of obese people in other countries and though it has not been recognized as a disease, it is a risk factor and a contributor to many other diseases. Diabetes and hypertension are treated but the root cause of obesity is not targeted thus the problem will still ensue. There has not been clear ways of treating a person who is obese or borderline obsess but monitoring what they eat and the amount of food intake will greatly affect the person’s weight in the future. Exercising and keeping active is one of the ways to combat obesity and to introduce a healthy lifestyle among those who may have forgotten the importance of it.
